South African Wine Tasting
We have a Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon from Backsberg, a family run winery on the outskirts of Cape Town. With 272 acres of vineyards, Backsberg says their wine making style is very much based on the KISS principle: “keep it simple stupid.” The winery believes in balance, structure and as little interference as possible in the vineyards to create lovely drinkable wines. The Chenin Blanc has notes of peach, melon and pineapple that is balanced out by acidity to give the wine a refreshing palate. The Cabernet Sauvignon boasts spicy aromas of blackcurrant, licorice and vanilla. It is a ripe, full fruit driven wine with depth and a long finish.
Similar to the Backsberg winery, Remhoogte practices minimal interference in the vineyard and is part of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative. Winemaker, Chris Boustred believes you can take in the terroir of a wine’s origin and the vineyard’s expression by opening a bottle. The Honeybunch Chenin Blanc has notes of flowers and honeysuckle with undertones of pineapple. It is a round full wine bursting with freshness and a lingering finish.
