Found on a plateau of the Isle River, Pomerol is spread across just under 900 hectares in the region of Libourne in the heart of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The clay soils of the Right Bank offer ideal ripening conditions for merlot, the king grape of the region. Cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and malbec are also grown in smaller quantities on sandier soils.
Pomerol wines are prized for their silky, intensity and mouthfeel. They are seductive when young, yet will gain savory notes with age. Pomerols are recognizable by their distinctive and highly unusual aromas of violet and black truffle.
Pomerol in 2015:
Spotlight on the 2015 vintage: Spring in Bordeaux was unusually mild in 2015. The months of May, June and July were subsequently warm and dry, allowing the vines to develop rapidly. Early August the grapes achieved veraison evenly and consistently. Autumn saw cooler, damp weather, allowing the grapes to build aromatic complexity and power before harvest. The highly-anticipated vintage promises to be a long-lived one.
