G.D. Vajra is located in Piedmont in Northwest Italy. The winery sits at the highest elevation in the commune of Barolo, in a village called Vergne. Milena and Aldo Vajra began the winery in 1972, producing small quantities of Piemontese wines from vineyards planted by Aldo’s father in 1947. Today, the family has 40 hectares under vine.
Vajra’s 2015 Nebbiolo exhibits wet forest floor with a hint of mushroom on the nose. Silky tannins play alongside cherry fruit on the palate, accompanied by the freshness of other small red fruit notes.
Pair this bottle with a hearty Bolognese, roast beef, or any of your other favorite Italian dishes. Salut!
The Wilson family are 3 generations deep in Cape winemaking. The family pays tribute to traditionalist Burgundian-style winemaking by way of Elgin’s cool-climate terroir, and the expertise of winemaker Stefan Gerber. Lothian Vineyards 2015 Riesling has very pale color with green hues. Aromas of green mango, nectarines and lychees. The palate shows great length and finesse with a vibrancy of perfumed fruits such as guava and sweet peach, overlaid with a touch of white cherry, sorbet and clove.
The balance of the wine is succulent and mouth-watering. This bottle pairs excellently with Goat or Feta cheese, chicken tikka, and Thai Green Curry. Cheers!
