As a long-standing pillar of its appellation, Château La Gaffelière is reputed have had vines since the Gallo-Roman era. The owners of the estate are Malet Roquefort family, who have lived in Saint Emilion for four centuries and are acknowledged as the oldest family of the area. The array architecture featured throughout property showcases the vast history of estate, including a vaulted kitchen from the 15th century, a 19th century dovecote that was converted into a pool house, and reception rooms from the 17th and 18th century. The current owner, the Count Léo de Malet Roquefort, continues to uphold the long tradition of the chateau, while bringing a touch of modernity and innovation.

Located on the right bank on the Saint Emilion appellation, the vineyard of Chateau La Gaffelière covers 22 hectares. The terroir consists of limestone, clay, chalk and sandy soils, with a vine density of 6,000 vines per hectare. The vineyard is a single block and enjoys a unique location between the Ausone and Pavie hills. The vineyards are planted at 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The southern exposure provides the vineyard with ample sunlight. Hand harvested, followed by a rigorous sorting process, the grapes are vinified in stainless steel tanks. After vinification, the wine is aged for 16-18 months in new and one-year-old barrels.
