G.D. Vajra is one of those special family owned, magical wineries that owns 100 acres of vineyards in Vergne, the highest village in Barolo, Piemonte. They have special touch with Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Moscato. Their Freisa is another story. Fresia can be loved and loathed, bitter-and sweet. This fabulous wine shows savory perfume and mint, violet and an incredibly wonderful and persistent finish.

Pigato 2013

Ligura is the wonderful crescent-shaped strip of land that separates Piemonte from the Mediterranean Ocean. Further inland and up the mountain is the world of vineyards and wine-making. The Vio family has just two hectares and make just a few hundred cases of Pigato and little Vermentino alongside their olive groves. Organic farming gives this medium bodied wine an earthy yet aromatic flavor that pairs great with seafood like grilled sea bass and salad.
