Seven generations of the Faiveley family have produced some of the best wines of Burgundy from the Côte des Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise in their 19th Century vaulted cellars in the Nuits-Saint-Georges. With origins as a simple negociant business in 1825, today Domaine Faiveley is one of the largest producers, and arguably best, producers in Burgundy. From François Faiveley’s ardent protection and care of the vines during the crisis to George Faiveley’s cofounding of the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, the family history is intimately tied to the rich and complex historical tapestry of fine wine in Burgundy.
With over 120 hectares (almost 300 acres) of vineyard, of which 10 (approximately 24.5 acres) are Grand Crus and 25 (approximately 61.5 acres) are Premier Crus, today the diverse Domaine Faiveley is led by Erwan Faiveley. With a focus on both modernization and tradition, Erwan had completely replaced the management structure of the company within 3 years of his arrival and subsequently completed a through renovation of the winemaking facilities. Seeking complete control from vine to bottle, Erwan has encouraged careful expansion of the family holdings. To encourage the best possible expression of the prime terroir, different viticultural teams focus on distinct regions and carefully tend each of the distinct plots. These dedicated efforts shine through the elegant, precise and concentrated red wines while the white wines display astonishing purity, tension and minerality. With great aging potential and an extraordinary capacity for gastronomic pairing, the wines of Domaine Faiveley encapsulate the quintessence of clean, opulent Burgundy fine wines.
