Cascina Fontana Barolo
“I pride myself . . . on making genuine wines that are natural, true expressions of nostro territorio – our land and our culture.”
The Fontana family, owners of Cascina Fontana in Monforte d’Alba, have been growing grapes and making wines in the Langhe for at least six generations. Their Barolo, made from crus Villero and Valletti in Castiglione Faletto and Gallinotto in La Morra, with an average production of less than 1,000 cases, undergoes long fermentations in stainless steel before being transferred to large Slavonian oak casks to age for a minimum of two years. It shows an array of aromas ranging from rose petal, to liquorice, to spice, and shows all the purity and elegance of the 2008 vintage along with a well-defined structure that makes it a perfect accompaniment to heartier, winter-time dishes.
This traditionally-styled Barolo, which only arrived in the States a short while ago, is the perfect antidote for the deep freeze that’s been hanging around the much of the country.
