Gaja Ca’ Marcanda “Promis” 2009
Angelo Gaja’s wines reflect the winemaker’s personality. His wines are not for the faint of heart. They are full-bodied wines made in a modern style that reflect his singular vision for the potential of his vineyards, often outside the rules of the DOCG system. The Promis, a Super-Tuscan from his Ca’Marcanda vineyard, is a perfect example – a Tuscan wine made from a blend of Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. It offers juicy tart cherries with pronounced notes of earth, tobacco and warm spices. The combination of acidity, structure and aromatics make it a fantastic dinner companion.

Carafoli Toccacielo Lambrusco 2010
I promise that I won’t pontificate about this wine and try to dazzle you with complex tasting notes; because that’s not what this sparkling, Italian red is about. This vibrant Lambrusco is refreshing and approachable with intense spicy dark fruit and a dry, crackling finish. A fun bubbly from the Italian province of Emiglia-Romagna to be enjoyed on a warm summer day. Emiglia-Romagna is also the region that gives us Pecorino and Prosciutto, which both pair wonderfully with this wine, but don’t be afraid of more adventurous pairings it is a wine that offers great flexibility – it does wonders at brunch, for example.
