Saint Emilion premier grand cru classe wine and James Bond favorite, Chateau Angelus, released its prices today. The chateau sits a half-mile from Saint Emilion’s famous bell tower and is well known for the iconic bell on its label.
The wine saw a spike in sales in 2006 when James Bond shared the 1982 vintage with Vesper Lynd during their train ride to Casino Royale. This short scene led to talks of Angelus becoming Bond’s Bordeaux of choice.
Angelus is a name that can be pronounced in every language on Earth, so it is magnificent. It remains as well as strong symbol when considering the wine world, our culture and our philosophy. – Hubert de Boüard, Owner of Chateau Angelus
Critical reception of the 2010 vintage has been extremely favorable: Robert Parker (96), Jancis Robinson (17.5), Decanter (18.5), James Suckling (97-98) and Wine Spectator (94-97).
