Roger Bohmrich’s 2010 Bordeaux Vintage Report and Tasting Notes

Roger Bohmrich’s 2010 Bordeaux Vintage Report and Tasting Notes

Now that the chateaux have started releasing their 2010 Bordeaux prices, you may want to take a minute to review the tasting notes of our Managing Director, Roger Bohmrich. In April 2011, Bohmrich visited Bordeaux during En Primeur week and released his full assessment of the 2010 Bordeaux vintage. The coverage includes his tasting notes and video commentary filmed during the week.

2010 Bordeaux is widely reported as one of Bordeaux’s finest vintages alongside last year’s 2009 release.
Vintages 2009 and 2010 are equally well-endowed fraternal twins. 2009 is the extrovert, flamboyant and fleshy; a vintage which is outgoing and expressive and seduced tasters even in its infancy. 2010 is more serious, profound; somewhat reserved, this vintage possesses all the qualities of greatness for those willing to be patient.” – Roger Bohmrich, Master of Wine

2010 Bordeaux – A Great Vintage

With vintages like 2000, 2005, 2009 and now 2010, Bordeaux is producing some of the best wines in history. This isn’t just coincidence or marketing hype.
The climatic conditions of 2010 have defined the outcome when taken together with a highly-refined understanding of the timing of harvesting, a rigorous sorting of the grapes, and carefully-managed extractions. As has become the pattern in Bordeaux in recent years, nature and grower have combined forces to an extent not true twenty or thirty years ago, shaping an optimal result with a frequency not previously known in the long history of this region. – Roger Bohmrich, Master of Wine
